PREMA Racing had a tough qualifying session as the FIA Formula 2 Championship went on track for qualifying at the Hungaroring venue. The team was a contender for the front-running positions as Sebastian Montoya showed promising pace.
The Colombian-American had the potential to fight for the top 5. However, a deleted lap early in the session and a late mishap in the final lap cost him two good shots, relegating him to P17.
On the other hand, Gabriele Minì could not find the right amount of confidence with the car and track, and while he worked with the team to rectify the situation, he had to be content with P12, which will also be his starting spot for both races.
#9 SEBASTIAN MONTOYA
"Frustrating qualifying from my side, but we were very fast again. This morning we were in a difficult situation, and in qualy, the first run was very good, I just made a couple of mistakes. Then we changed the car for the second run and went a little bit too far with it, and got a snap in the last corner. I'm really happy with the step we made from FP to qualy, finding the speed we had for most of the year again. It's the first mistake I made in the last qualy lap after Bahrain, and it's frustrating when it happens, but we learned a lot and we just keep working."
#10 GABRIELE MINÌ
"Just finished qualifying. Very tricky session, since the first lap of qualy, we were clearly missing quite a bit of pace. We tried to do a step for the second set, but it didn't really work. It was similar to the first run in terms of feeling. Big shame, we just need to analyze a bit of data, and see what we can do in the races. It won't be easy for sure, but tyre degradation can be a factor here and we can try to use it to our advantage."
